Main features of the Olight Perun 2 Mini headlamp

  • 2 lights in 1: The Perun 2 Mini with white and red LED light, serves as an emergency light without disturbing outdoor animals. The white light can be warm or neutral depending on the specific model you choose.
  • Compact and lightweight design: The Perun 2 Mini is easy to transport and comfortable to use for long periods thanks to its reduced weight and size. It measures 64 mm in length, 20.6 mm in diameter at the body and 22 mm in diameter at the focus.
  • Improved Performance: The Olight Perun 2 Mini headlamp includes 5 white light modes (turbo, high, medium, low, moonlight) and two red light modes (steady and S.O.S.). It can also be used as a headlamp, as an EDC hand torch, as a pocket flashlight thanks to the detachable clip, attached to the wrist with a strap or attached to metal surfaces thanks to its magnetic base.
  • Rechargeable: Comes with a rechargeable battery that can be conveniently charged via an MCC1A-type magnetic USB cable. In the worst-case scenario, you can replace the IMR16340 lithium-ion battery with a new one if it breaks down, which is highly unlikely.
  • Additional Features: Includes a 4-level battery level indicator; water resistance according to the IPX8 standard, withstanding immersion in water up to 1 meter deep for a maximum of 30 minutes; Tested in drops of up to 1.5 meters and with a thermal protection system to prevent overheating.

Testing and results

The Olight Perun 2 Mini headlamp is one of the best valued by users for combining performance in an ultra-compact and lightweight device. It is a model that can be used together with the headband and free your hands or carried in a pocket and used as an EDC (Every Day Carry) flashlight. You could even use it as a headlamp with any headband that allows you to attach the clip that comes with the flashlight. In addition, it can work with two different tones of white light (cold and neutral) and with red light, the latter being ideal for not altering your vision at night, reading without irritating your eyesight, and it does not attract insects.

Because it is so light, it is very practical for most outdoor activities of low or medium demand, and for indoor work or manual work such as mechanics, plumbing, electricity, warehouses and similar. The red light works wonders, as it shines more clearly and further away than I had imagined. For duration and performance, the medium intensity mode is the most recommended, both for walks in nature or cycling; It seems to me to be a special headlamp for fishing, since with IPX8 waterproofing it is capable of submerging up to 1 meter, so a few drops or even rain won’t hurt it.

The high intensity mode shines very brightly, but it consumes the battery very quickly, so I would use it only for occasions that require it. The turbo mode, honestly, I don’t see any use for it, since it consumes the battery in a few minutes, and if you need so many lumens of lighting it would be better to opt for other headlamps. Another detail is that for trail-running it does not seem like the best option, since it is a model where the flashlight is a separate piece from the headband and the head, it tends to vibrate a little and I think that over time it could lose grip; Don’t get me wrong, it’s not going to fall, the rubber grip is firm and of good quality, my question is what will happen after hours and hours of jogging and sprinting with the constant pounding of footsteps on difficult terrain; If it is for urban, semi-urban or flat country running, it is fine. For running I would opt for models where the entire flashlight assembly is a single piece of equipment. I find it more suitable for bicycles, since the light beam tends to be a little narrower but has greater reach than other similar headlamps with similar powers.

Putting everything on the balance, the Olight Perun 2 Mini headlamp is an excellent option, with high quality materials and manufacturing, very versatile, resistant to weather conditions and adverse use at an adequate price for what it offers. Of course, don’t get carried away by the 1100 lumens, remember that in that Mode it will only last 2 minutes and then it will automatically drop to just over 200 lumens, so Turbo Mode is more of an accessory for specific situations.

Instructions for use – Olight Perun 2 Mini Tutorial

It works with a single top button above the LED that will change function according to certain combinations of clicks that we give it. Before using it you must charge the battery, to do this, unscrew the bulb from the body and remove the insulating sheet from the battery, then put the cover back on and recharge with the magnetic charger that goes directly by contact to the base. When it is charged it will notify you with a green light on the charger. Next to the power button, a small light will indicate the remaining battery level: green light, more than 60%; orange light, between 60% and 10%; red light, between 10% and 5%; red light flashing, less than 5%.

Let’s move on to use. With one click you turn it on and off; To lock the button with the light already on, press once and hold for 1 second, to unlock press once and hold for 2 seconds.

The different light modes are as follows:

  • Turbo – 1100 lumens: After 2 minutes it will automatically lower the lighting power to 23% and last 85 minutes. With the flashlight on, access this mode by double-clicking.
  • High – 250 lumens: From Turbo or Moonlight mode, press once and hold for 2 seconds to cycle between high, medium and low intensities.
  • Medium – 60 lumens: From Turbo or Moonlight mode, press once and hold for 2 seconds to cycle between high, medium and low intensities.
  • Low – 15 lumens: From Turbo or Moonlight mode, press once and hold for 2 seconds to cycle between high, medium and low intensities.
  • Moonlight – 2 lumens: With the flashlight off, press once and hold for 2 seconds.
  • Fixed red light – 40 lumens: With the flashlight off, access this mode by double-clicking.
  • SOS Red Light (Strobe): From Red Light mode, press once and hold for 2 seconds.

Parts and frame

The package includes the headlamp, usb magnetic charger, flashlight holder, headband, pocket clip and instruction manual. The tape has silicone dots on the inside that help a lot to keep it in position. It is elastic, removable, washable, thin and with an adjustable ergonomic design that does not bother you at all. The front flashlight support can be felt during the first few minutes of use while you get used to it, but since it is such a light set you will stop noticing it in a very short time. It is this support that allows you to adjust the direction of the focus by 180 degrees, being able to point completely vertically up or down, since the flashlight itself does not rotate, the head and body remain fixed, but by holding it to the head you can rotate it, This is because the attachment is through an adjustable rubber hook to be able to put the flashlight on or take it off the support.

The magnetic USB charger works by contact and is magnetized, so the flashlight remains very firm next to the charger base, so it doesn’t matter if you leave the flashlight standing or on its side, it will continue charging. The base connects with a USB cable to any connector that allows it. Charging is very fast, approximately 1 hour.

There are 2 features that I really like and in my opinion, they give it a great advantage. The first is the magnetic base that allows the flashlight to adhere to any iron surface; It may not seem like a big deal, but if in some job you need to illuminate a specific area and the movement of your head itself gets in the way, this will solve it. The second thing is its stainless steel clip, very robust and easily attached to belts, pockets, backpacks and a variety of items. Then you can wear the flashlight on your head, or on another part of the body thanks to the clip, or fix it with the magnet, thus covering practically any situation that comes your way.

Advantages of the Olight Perun 2 Mini headlamp

The Olight Perun 2 Mini has a series of advantages that make it stand out in the headlamp market. These are some of its key features:

  • Power in a compact size: Despite its small design, the Perun 2 Mini offers impressive power of up to 1100 lumens, illuminating your path with clarity and breadth.
  • New Design: The more comfortable elastic band effectively avoids the bad experience of skin rubbing against Velcro, something that used to bother users of the previous version.
  • Versatility of use: With its removable clip, magnetic base and adjustable strap, this headlamp adapts to different situations. You can use it as a headlamp, attach it to a backpack, or even place it on metal surfaces to keep your hands free.
  • Versatile Lighting Modes: The Perun 2 Mini features several lighting modes, including a bright white light mode and a red light mode to preserve night vision. Additionally, it has a strobe mode (flashing at repetitive intervals) for emergencies.
  • Durable Construction: Made from high-quality materials, this headlamp is waterproof and impact-resistant, making it a reliable choice even in harsh conditions.

Weak points of the Olight Perun 2 Mini headlamp

Although the Olight Perun 2 Mini headlamp has numerous advantages, it is important to take into account some aspects that could be considered weak points:

  • Battery Life: While the Perun 2 Mini is compact, its size also limits battery capacity, which can result in shorter battery life compared to larger models, especially in full power mode.
  • Limited range: Due to its compact size, the flashlight has a more limited maximum range compared to larger, more powerful headlamps.
  • Heating: if you use it at maximum power, the front will heat up, since it is a small device. By the way, in this mode, it will consume a lot of battery, use it only for specific cases.

What do users think of the Olight Perun 2 mini?

Opinion 5/5 ⭐

I really like how small it is, the easy handling and the possibility of options that it has, such as wearing it as a front, attached to the work vest, etc.

Opinion 5/5 ⭐

Despite being so small, this light is very bright and perfect for late night workouts.

Opinion 4/5 ⭐

The lightness of this little lantern is remarkable. It is impossible to feel the difference with and without him in the helmet. Overall it’s good, the only drawback is that the light beam is too narrow, it could just be twice as wide. You don’t need 1100 lumens for something this small, but a wider beam would make this flashlight perfect.
