Testing and results
Ledlenser headlamps always have a robust construction, regardless of whether they are lightweight and compact products like the H8R. It has a single front LED light connected by a cable on the left to the battery in the rear, which is the area with the greatest weight, I would say that the weight distribution is approximately 70-30, which is very comfortable, Well, its total weight is 158 grams, which would put about 100 grams on the back.
Performance
Light Mode | Light Intensity (Lumens) | Run time | Beam distance |
---|---|---|---|
Low | 10 | 120 hours | 20 meters |
Medium | 250 | 15 hours | 100 meters |
High | 600 | 10 hours | 150 meters |
Whether for walks, jogging, sprinting or cycling, I really liked it. The low-intensity mode (10 lumens) is very dim, suitable for simple walks on easy terrain; Medium mode (250 lumens) is enough for medium-speed jogging, running or cycling in most scenarios; High intensity (600 lumens) would be useful for more challenging terrain where you need to see the terrain in detail. A point to highlight is the fixation of the front, which remains in its position even when changing speeds or over bumps. Totally recommended for camping, hunting or fishing activities, as long as you do not fall into the water because it cannot withstand being submerged, but it can withstand splashes or drizzle.
The battery life at the different intensities is quite close to that declared by the manufacturer, although I must note that at high intensity, after about 2 or 3 hours, it automatically lowers its power – I suppose to make the battery last longer. load – but it is still more powerful than the medium intensity, it is as if it were at an intermediate intensity between the medium and high modes.
Whether for sports, camping, work environments or as an emergency tool, the Ledlenser H8R headlamp fully meets the requirements, demonstrating great versatility. Excellent fit, comfortable to wear, easy to use and very good manufacturing. Totally recommended. In the following official Ledlenser video you will see a quick explanation of the product.
How to use – Ledlenser H8R Tutorial
The Ledlenser H8R headtorch has ultra-simple handling you can do it with one hand. It has three main commands: light intensity, light beam focus and focus direction.
You regulate the light intensity with a single button that also serves as on and off, and allows you to change between high intensity (600 lumens), medium (250 lumens) and low intensity (10 lumens) with each click. This button is located above the spotlight and protrudes a little so that you can locate it quickly just by feeling it, easy to operate even with gloves. By default it is in increasing mode (low, medium, high), and to return to a lower mode, you must turn around completely until you turn it off and turn it on again.
You regulate the light focus with the knob-type dial that is located around the focus, which moves from left to right and vice versa, changing from a focused beam of light to a wide one as you adjust. Some users have reported that said dial is very hard, but I think it was some product batch that turned out that way, well that was not my case, and yes, it is heavier to turn than you think when you see it, but it makes sense, since for jogging or running it stays in position.
The 36 mm diameter spotlight can be tilted downwards almost completely, that is, it does not reach 90 degrees of verticality but must be between 80 and 85 degrees, and can be placed in 4 different preset positions. It is firm enough to stay in any position you leave it while still moving, such as jogging or cycling.
The headlamp also has a locking mode to carry it in bags without the risk of it being activated accidentally without you realizing (something more common than you think). To lock it you must press and hold the power button for 19 seconds, then it will flash 4 times to let you know that it has been locked. To unlock, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds and it will flash once to let you know that it has been unlocked.
During the 19 seconds of blocking, it will flash in different ways, because you can access 3 predefined operating modes that I explain below:
- Mode 1: Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds and release when it flashes 1 time. In this mode it will turn on at maximum power, going down to medium, low and off with each additional click.
- Mode 2: Press and hold the power button for 13 seconds and release when it flashes 2 times. In this mode it will turn on at minimum power, rising to medium, maximum and off with each additional click.
- Mode 3: Press and hold the power button for 16 seconds and release when it flashes 3 times. In this mode you will only have 2 intensities, medium and low, starting with the medium intensity and going to low and off with each click.
Parts and frame
The elastic band that adjusts to the head is resistant and firm, it can be dismantled and is washable, or replaced if it gets damaged, although I find it very difficult for this to happen just with use, perhaps if you store it with some item sharp could be damaged. The side carabiners allow adjustment according to the size of the user’s head. In addition, it has a thick foam padded on the inside of the headband in both the focus and the battery (the hard areas of the equipment) to avoid discomfort when contacting your head. The truth is that it feels very comfortable.
The battery compartment can be easily opened by unscrewing the cover (in case you need to change the battery), although you can charge it directly from the front using a USB port located in the same compartment. This compartment is secured with a clamp, so when using it, make sure to leave the charging port pointing downwards, because although it has IPX4 waterproofing and is sealed with a rubber cover, it is best to avoid contact with water as much as possible. rain or splashes, just to take extreme precautions. When the battery reaches 10% power, the front will flash three times to warn you.
In this same area, there is a small red rear safety light (a dot) to be seen from a distance. It is not very striking but it does its job of making you visible well.

What do users think of the Ledlenser H8R headlamp?
Opinion 5/5 ⭐
Of all the headlamps I have tried, in my opinion, it is the most balanced in terms of light output, battery life (replaceable), and overall weight. I have used it for a variety of sports and activities, as well as for tasks in low-light conditions.
Opinion 4/5 ⭐
The light beam quality is excellent, with no variation in intensity. However, there is a slight issue with the zoom function. When the focus is fully retracted, it can sometimes get stuck, requiring the use of both hands to start extending it (to decrease the beam angle). Apart from that, everything else works well.
Opinión 3/5 ⭐
Quality product, but the battery life falls short of what the manufacturer advertises. As the battery drains, the intensity of the light decreases without allowing for a change between lighting modes. The ability to replace the battery compensates for the previous drawback. They do the job, but there are better options within the same brand.
