Testing and results
The Ledlenser MH8 headlamp is a powerful tool designed to provide you with exceptional lighting during your outdoor adventures. With a focus on quality and innovation, this flashlight offers impressive features that make it a popular choice among enthusiasts of activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and overnight expeditions. In this review, we’ll explore the Ledlenser MH8’s strengths, weaknesses, and key features to help you make an informed decision before your next adventure.
Functioning
Mode | Lumens | Beam distance | Battery run time |
---|---|---|---|
Low | 20 | 40 m (131 feet) | 60 h |
Medium | 120 | 100 m (328 feet) | 10 h |
High | 220 | 140 m (459 feet) | 3.5 h |
Boost | 600 | 200 m (656 feet) | 1.5 h |
Energy saving | 400 | 180 m (590 feet) | 7 h |
The Ledlenser MH8 has surprised me with its performance. The lighting quality is excellent, both in terms of brightness and color. The flashlight offers a maximum power of 600 lumens in boost mode, allowing you to see up to 200 meters away – that’s a lot! Although I must admit that its fixed duration of 10 seconds is somewhat uncomfortable for me because sometimes I have wanted to maintain that high intensity for longer and having to activate it again is a detail that I find somewhat uncomfortable. The other modes are also very useful for different situations, such as reading a map, walking on a trail or marking your position.
The medium intensity is more than enough for most activities since I recommend this headlamp for quiet outdoor activities, such as camping or hiking, but not so much for running or cycling, since being somewhat heavier, a constant jump can make you start to feel its weight in the long run, but I must also admit that using the top strap makes the weight distribution improve a lot. The red light is ideal for not dazzling other people or animals, and the green and blue lights are very practical for specific activities.
I also liked the flashlight for its versatility. You can use it as a headlamp or as a handheld flashlight as it can be easily removed from the strap. You can also use it with regular AA batteries if your rechargeable battery runs out. Furthermore, you can also customize the flashlight with optional accessories, which you will find below.
In conclusion, the Ledlenser MH8 is a headlamp that delivers what it promises: powerful, versatile and comfortable lighting. It is a flashlight that I recommend for anyone who likes to go outdoors, whether hiking, camping or practicing some night sport but not high speed. The 7-year warranty that Ledlenser always offers is a tremendous plus point over the competition.
How to use – Ledlenser MH8 tutorial
The Ledlenser MH8 has a single button to turn it on/off and to switch between its different modes, which can sometimes lead to confusion, but here I explain it in easy terms.
- To use the White Light Mode (low, medium, high, flashing) or the RGB Mode (red, green, blue) you must press and hold the button for 3 seconds, with the flashlight off or on it doesn’t matter, this way you will change between Modes.
- In White Light Mode, with each click you will change intensity, going through low (20 lumens), medium (120 lumens), high (220 lumens) and intermittent flashing (120 lumens). With a new click it will turn off and you will start again.
- In RGB Mode, with each click you will change color, going through red, green and blue, in that order. An additional click will turn it off and you will start again. In these modes you do not have the flashing option.
- Boost Mode, which emits 600 lumens, is activated from white or red light by making two quick clicks. This mode lasts only 10 seconds and then returns to the intensity it was at. You can also turn off Boost Mode before 10 seconds with a single click.
- To lock the front off for transport, press and hold the button for 7 seconds.
- In White Light you have 2 main light flows: Constant light flow and Energy Saving. To switch between both modes, from the Lock function you must press and hold the button for 7 seconds. To know what mode you are in, look at how the light turns off. If it turns off suddenly, you are in Constant Light Mode; If you are in Power Saving Mode, the light will turn off and fade.
You can also adjust the tilt angle of the flashlight to point completely downwards, and modify the focus of the light beam, from a wide flood beam to a narrow spot beam by turning the knob that surrounds the LED.
The flashlight’s battery is rechargeable via a USB cable, and has a charge level indicator. Battery life depends on the light mode you use, but overall it’s pretty good. For example, in high white light mode, the battery lasts about 7 hours, and in low mode, about 60 hours.
If the handling is still not clear to you, I leave you the following official video of the brand; the instruction starts from minute 2:00
